Good Takes First Place in 100-Yard Backstroke as Bearcats Swim at Whitman

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Tatum Good (Fy., Scottsdale, AZ/Scottsdale Prep Academy) of Willamette University won the women's 100-yard backstroke and took second place in the women's 50-yard freestyle, as the Bearcats swam against Whitman College on Friday, Nov. 19 at Harvey Pool. Whitman's women defeated Willamette, 158-44, and the Blues won the men's competition, 170-34.

The Whitman men's team improved to 3-0 on the season, 3-0 in the Northwest Conference, while the Willamette men's team fell to 1-2 overall, 1-2 in the NWC. Whitman's women moved to 1-2 overall, 1-2 in the NWC. Willamette's women dropped to 1-2 on the season, including 1-2 in the NWC.

Good registered a time of 1:02.91 while winning the 100-yard backstroke. She won by 0.67 seconds over Ella Hill of Whitman, who placed second in 1:03.58. In the 50-yard freestyle, Good was timed at 27.06 seconds. Shaye Agnew from Whitman won the 50 free in 25.98 seconds.

Also finishing second in individual events for the Bearcat were Min Wei (Sr., Fushun, China/Cascade HS) for the women's team, and Cole Lindberg (Fy., Moses Lake, WA/Moses Lake Christian Academy) and Julius Wilhelmi (So., Roseville, Ca/Woodcreek HS) for the men's team.

Wei earned second place in the 100-yard butterfly, which she completed in 1:03.48. Bella White won the 100 fly for the Blues with a time of 1:02.42.

In the men's 100-yard butterfly, Lindberg was second in 54.69 seconds. He trailed only Michael Chang of Whitman, who won the race in 53.07 seconds. Wilhelmi placed second in the 100-yard freestyle, as he earned a time of 49.34 seconds. The 100 free was won by Tanner Filion of Whitman with a time of 46.99 seconds.

Good and Wei helped the Bearcats take a close second in the 200-yard medley relay, which opened the meet. Whitman won the race in 1:54.22, with the Bearcats touching out at 1:55.77. Swimming in the relay for Willamette were Good, Anna Hornbeck (Fy., Bend, OR/Bend HS), Wei, and Alayna Kisiday (Fy., Silverdale, WA/Central Kitsap HS). Whitman's relay included Ashley Joe, Rachel Sapper, White, and Grace Kim.

Willamette also registered second place in the men's 200-yard medley relay. Swimming for WU's relay team were Logan Copeland (So., Sparks, NV/Spanish Springs HS), Ben Nickell (Jr., Boulder, CO/Fairview HS), Will Compton (Jr., Portage, MI/Portage Northern HS), and Wilhelmi. They combined for a time of 1:43.77. Whitman won the relay in 1:37.50, with Filion, Aidan Laird, Chang, and Jackson Masson swimming for the Blues.

The Bearcats will take on Whitworth University on Saturday, Nov. 20. Meet time in Spokane, Washington, is scheduled for 11 a.m. (PST).
