SALEM, Ore. -- The Willamette University men's swimming and women's swimming teams have qualified Scholar All-America honors from the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for their efforts in the classroom during the 2023 spring semester. Both of Willamette's teams received the honor for the 18th semester in a row.

The Scholar All-America award went to programs that earned team grade point averages of 3.0 or higher during the semester. The Bearcat women's team achieved a 3.59 combined GPA during the fall, while the Willamette men's team completed the semester with a 3.49 combined GPA.

"I am excited to see that our men's and women's teams were once again recognized as CSCAA Scholar All-America teams for their success in the classroom," Willamette Head Swimming Coach Brent Summers said. "Both teams had a very successful semester with many Bearcats achieving very impressive individual GPAs.

"I love coaching a team who is as dedicated to their studies as these teams are," Summers added. "I know that their continued success in the classroom will set them up well to be successful in life after Willamette."

Overall, 718 teams from colleges and universities in NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, the NAIA, and the NJCAA qualified for Scholar All-America status this past spring. The teams, who were selected based on their team grade point averages, represent a total of 17,497 student-athletes.

Willamette is a member of the Northwest Conference and the Bearcats compete in NCAA Division III. In the 2023 spring semester, 161 women's teams and 137 men's teams in NCAA Division III earned Scholar All-America honors. Seven NWC women's teams and seven NWC men's teams qualified for Scholar All-America recognition.
