Bearcats Defeat Boxers in Men's Swimming during Exhibition Meet

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University defeated Pacific University in men's swimming, 130-25, during an exhibition meet on Friday, Jan. 19 at the WU Natatorium. Nicholas Moore (Fy., Moses Lake, WA/Moses Lake HS) won three individual events for the Bearcats.

Moore was the winner of the 1,650-yard freestyle, 400-yard individual medley, and 100-yard backstroke. Moore won the 1,650 freestyle at 18:15.21. His winning time in the 400 I.M. was 4:50.06, and Ethan Davies (So., Hong Kong/Discovery College) of WU was second in 4:52.30. Moore prevailed in the 100 backstroke at 1:01.58, while teammate William LaDuca (So., Salem, OR/South Salem HS) placed second in 1:02.97.

Winning one individual event each for Willamette were LaDuca, Davies, Julius Wilhelmi (Sr., Roseville, CA/Woodcreek HS), Kevin Olmedo (So., La Canada, CA/St. Francis HS), and Logan Copeland (Sr., Sparks, NV/Spanish Springs HS). LaDuca won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.75. Davies took first place in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:32.13. Wilhelmi grabbed first place in the 100-yard freestyle at 48.90 seconds, while Olmedo was second at 51.85 seconds.

Olmedo was the winner of the 50-yard freestyle, as he recorded a time of 23.01 seconds, while Ka'Olapa Masuko (Fy., Volcano, HI/Kamehameha Schools-Hawaii) took second place in 23.92 seconds. Copeland finished the 100-yard breaststroke with a winning time of 1:06.13. Mauko was second in 1:07.15.

Capone Delgadillo registered Pacific's only win in the men's competition during the 100-yard butterfly. Delgadillo's time was 58.46 seconds.

The Bearcats won the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay. Cole Lindberg (Jr., Moses Lake, WA/Moses Lake Christian Academy) swam on both relay teams for the Bearcats. In the 200 medley relay, the WU relay unit included LaDuca, Copeland, Lindberg, and Wilhelmi. They won in 1:43.09. Willamette's winning swimmers in the 200 freestyle relay were Wilhelmi, Lindberg, Olmedo, and Copeland. Their overall time was 1:33.85.

Willamette will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 20 in a Northwest Conference dual meet at the University of Puget Sound. Meet time is scheduled for 1 p.m. PST in Tacoma, Washington.
