Wilhelmi and Moore Each Win an Event in Men's Swimming at Puget Sound

TACOMA, Wash. -- Julius Wilhelmi (Sr., Roseville, CA/Woodcreek HS) and Nicholas Moore (Fy., Moses Lake, WA/Moses Lake HS) each took first place in one event for Willamette University during a Northwest Conference dual swimming meet at the University of Puget Sound on Saturday, Jan. 20. Wilhelmi won the shortest race of the day, the 50-yard freestyle, while Moore won the longest race of the meet, the 1,000-yard freestyle. Puget Sound won the men's team competition, 124-65.

The Loggers advanced their record to 5-3 overall, including 5-2 against NWC opponents. Willamette fell to 0-4 on the season, 0-4 in the NWC.

Wilhelmi claimed first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a close finish against Cam Aaselund of Puget Sound. Wilhelmi touched out in 21.88 seconds, as he won by .06 with Aaselund taking second place in 21.94 seconds. Later in the meet, Wilhelmi earned second place in the 100-yard freestyle at 48.60 seconds. Emory Burden of PS won the 100 free in 47.11 seconds.

Moore won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:43.31. WU teammate Ethan Davies (So., Hong Kong/Discovery College) was second at 11:07.88.

Also for the Bearcats, Cole Lindberg (Jr., Moses Lake, WA/Moses Lake Christian Academy) recorded second place in the 200-yard butterfly and Davies took second in the 500-yard freestyle. The 200 butterfly was won by Jaden Francis for the Loggers in 2:04.73, with Lindberg following at 2:06.96. In the 500 free, Aaselund of Puget Sound won in 5:12.92 and Davies was next at 5:18.82. In addition, Logan Copeland (Sr., Sparks, NV/Spanish Springs HS) was second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:14.65.

The Bearcats will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 25 at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. Start time at the Zehntbauer Swimming Pavilion is set for 5 p.m. PST. The meet was originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 13, but was postponed due to the weather.
