Women's Swimmers Jenner and Noffsinger Earn First Place against Loggers

TACOMA, Wash. -- The Willamette University women's swimming team received one win each from Sarah Jenner (Jr., Normandy Park, WA/Stanford Online HS) and Emma Noffsinger (So., Arvada, CO/Northglenn HS) in competition against the University of Puget Sound on Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Wallace Pool on the PS campus. The Loggers defeated the Bearcats in the women's team standings, 118-77. Jenner won the 1,000-yard freestyle and Noffsinger earned first place in the 200-yard backstroke.

Puget Sound improved to 5-3 on the season and 5-2 against NWC opponents. Willamette fell to 0-4 overall and to 0-4 in the NWC.

Jenner registered a winning time of 12:09.60 in the 1,000 freestyle. Second place went to WU's Ana Kaldy (Fy., South Beach, OR/Newport HS), who finished in 12:19.56. Jenner added a second place result for the Bearcats during a very close finish in the 200-yard breaststroke. Lara Franco won the event for Puget Sound in 2:37.50 and Jenner was timed next in 2:37.66.

In the 200 backstroke, Noffsinger prevailed in 2:22.25. Kass McLennan of Puget Sound was second in 2:23.77 and Emma Schauble (Fy., Portland, OR/Prospect Ridge Academy HS) of Willamette placed third at 2:25.84.

Alayna Kisiday (Jr., Silverdale, WA/Central Kitsap HS) of Willamette took second place in the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle. In the 100 free, Amy Madsen of the Loggers claimed first place in 55.22 seconds. Kisiday's time for second place was 56.11 seconds, while Lydia Schmitt (Fy., Olympia, WA/North Thurston HS) of WU took third place in 58.40 seconds. Madeleine Brennan of PS won the 200 free with a time of 2:01.88. Kisiday was second at 2:02.65 and Annie Sullivan of the Loggers was third at 2:02.85. Tessa Ciatti (Fy., Bellingham, WA/Squalicum HS) placed fourth for the Bearcats in 2:05.86.

Leah Howell (Fy., Bremerton, WA/Central Kitsap HS) and Jacqueline Hall (Jr., Bainbridge Island, WA/Bainbridge HS) each added a strong third place finish for Willamette. Howell was third in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.27 seconds. The winner was Elinor Glass of PS in 25.40 seconds. Hall's third place result was in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:24.22.

Willamette will travel to Portland, Oregon, on Thursday, Jan. 25 to take on Lewis & Clark College in another Northwest Conference meet. Action at the Zehntbauer Swimming Pavilion is scheduled to get underway at 5 p.m. PST. The meet was originally slated for Saturday, Jan. 13, but was postponed due to the weather.
