Mcarthur Places 5th in Long Jump at OSU High Performance

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Kaleb Mcarthur (So., Independence, OR/Central HS) of the Willamette University men's track and field team set a personal record while earning fifth place in the  long jump at the OSU High Performance on Friday, April 26. The meet, hosted by Oregon State University at the Whyte Track and Field Center, will conclude on Saturday, April 27.

Mcarthur's top mark in the long jump was 23' 2.75" on his second attempt of the finals. He missed third place by just 0.75". Mcarthur's jump moved him into fifth place on Willamette's all-time list and into a tie for 28th on this year's NCAA Division III performance list.

Oliver Reis, competing unattached, won the long jump at 24' 0.25". Kaleo Wellman from Bushnell University (Ore.) was second at 23' 8.75", while Isaiah Webster of Central Washington University was third at 23' 3.50". Diemerci Migani from Portland State University was fourth at 23' 3.25".

Mcarthur's previous top distance in the long jump was 22' 7.25". He achieved the mark while taking fourth place at the 2024 Northwest Conference Championships on April 19.

Also competing for the Willamette men's team on Friday were Adam Lewis (Fy., Glendale, CA/Eagle Rock HS) and William Hennum (Jr., Henderson, NV/Liberty HS/SW Oregon CC) in the 1,500-meter run, Simon Kidder (Sr., Bend, OR/Summit HS) and Caleb Graham (Fy., Newberg, OR/Newberg HS)  in the 400-meter hurdles, and Myles Crandall (Fy., Monmouth, OR/Central HS) in the 200-meter dash.

Lewis finished 13th and Hennum was 14th out of 59 runners in the 1,500 which included four heats. Lewis was timed at 4:08.87 and Hennum reached the finish line in 4:09.42.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Kidder placed 15th and Graham was 22nd. Kidder registered a time of 58.21 seconds, while Graham earned a time of 1:00.71. Crandall completed the 200-meter dash in 22.74 seconds and placed 30th out of 66 runners in five heats during the event.

Set to compete in men's events on Saturday are four Willamette athletes. Mcarthur will participate in the triple jump, starting at 1 p.m. PDT. Matthew Nivala (Fy., Salem, OR/West Salem HS) is scheduled to run in the 110-meter hurdles at 2:30 p.m., Crandall is entered in the 400-meter dash, which is set for 3 p.m., and Liam Bergevin (Fy., Walla Walla, WA/Walla Walla HS) will be competing for the 800-meter run at 4:10 p.m.
