Mcarthur Claims Third Place in Long Jump at Oregon Twilight

EUGENE, Ore. -- Willamette University men's track and field competitor Kaleb Mcarthur (So., Independence, OR/Central HS) achieved a solid performance in the long jump at the Oregon Twilight on Friday, May 3 at Hayward Field, as he took third place with a top mark of 22' 0.75". Mcarthur cleared 21 feet on all six of his attempts in the prelims and the finals, and went at least 21' 7.50" four times.

Mcarthur's top distance was earned on his final attempt, as he improved slightly from two previous jumps of 21' 11.50". Oliver Reis, competing unattached, won the long jump at 22' 7.25". Aiden Carter, also unattached, placed second with a jump of 22' 1.00", just one-quarter of an inch farther than Mcarthur's top mark.

Also competing for the Willamette men's team were Simon Kidder (Sr., Bend, OR/Summit HS) in the 400-meter hurdles and William Hennum (Jr., Henderson, NV/Liberty HS/SW Oregon CC) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Kidder took sixth place in the 400 hurdles with a time of 57.25 seconds. He was 0.06 out of fifth place, which went to Daniel Watts of Whitworth University at 57.19 seconds. In the steeplechase, Hennum finished 10th in 9:43.71 just 10 seconds off his personal record time of 9:33.92 at the 2024 Northwest Conference Championships on April 19.

Willamette will participate at the Linfield Open on Saturday, May 4 in McMinnville, Oregon. Action is set to begin at 10 a.m. PDT at Maxwell Field.
