Willamette Zooms Past Corban 22-3 in Women's Lacrosse Exhibition

SALEM, Ore. -- Brooklynn Pearl (So., MID, Eugene, OR/Willamette HS) scored six goals and Claire Kisielnicki (Jr., ATT, Manitou Springs, CO/Manitou Springs HS) contributed five goals, to lead the Willamette University Bearcats in a 22-3 win against Corban University in an exhibition women's lacrosse game on Thursday, Feb. 22. The Bearcats' victory at Sparks Field over their crosstown rivals also featured four goals by Cedric Shaw (Fy., MID, Jamul, CA/Valhalla HS) plus two goals and four assists by Lily Bachiochi (Jr., ATT, Henderson, NV/Coronado HS).

The teams were tied 1-1 after a goal by Kisielnicki and a goal by Kailyn Dawkins of Corban in the first five minutes, but the Bearcats scored the next six goals. Shaw opened the run at 9:43 and Bachiochi tacked on a goal at 8:42. Pearl scored the next two goals to start her six-goal evening at 7:02 and 4:54. Sydney Davis scored for the Warriors with 31 seconds left in the first quarter to cut WU's lead to 7-2, but Pearl earned her third goal with 10 seconds on the clock.

Willamette outscored Corban 8-0 in the second quarter. Pearl put in her fourth goal of the game with 11:09 remaining in the half. Six players scored for WU in the second period. Kisielnicki and Shaw each recorded two of the goals, helping the Bearcats build a 16-2 halftime margin.

After Alyssa Molisee (Fy., MID/ATT, Henderson, NV/Nevada State HS) scored first for Willamette in the third quarter at the 13:09 mark, Pearl completed her six-goal effort by scoring at 10:01 and 8:04. The Bearcats were in front 21-3 entering the fourth quarter.

WU achieved a 41-7 advantage in total shots, a 38-6 edge in shots on goal, and a 24-9 margin in ground balls. The Bearcats finished with a 15-12 lead in draw controls, and completed all nine of their clears, while Corban was 3 of 13 on clears.

The Warriors committed 22 turnovers, while seven Bearcats earned a team total of nine forced turnovers. Pear led the way by causing three of Corban's miscues. Willamette lost possession just six times.

Willamette will open the regular season at Sparks Field on Tuesday, Feb. 27 against Lewis & Clark College in a non-conference game. It is L&C's first season of women's lacrosse, and the Pioneers will not compete in the NWC this season but will start conference play next spring. Game time on Tuesday is set for 6 p.m. PST.
