Bearcats Shut Out Eastern Oregon 22-0 in Women's Lacrosse Exhibition

SALEM, Ore. -- Lily Bachiochi (Jr., ATT, Henderson, NV/Coronado HS) earned two goals and seven assists, and teammate Claire Kisielnicki (So., ATT, Manitou Springs, CO/Manitou Springs HS) scored five goals, Willamette University won 22-0 over Eastern Oregon University in a women's lacrosse exhibition game on Saturday, March 2. The game did not count on either teams record, as Willamette remained 1-0 and the Mountaineers remained 0-4 on the season.

In the first quarter, Shea Richardson-Pepper (Jr., DEF/MID, San Diego, CA/Scripps Ranch HS) scored two goals as the team built a 7-0 lead. Brooklynn Pearl (So., MID, Eugene, OR/Willamette HS) provided the first goal just 29 seconds into the first 15-minute quarter. Kendyl Jennings (Sr., MID, Keizer, OR/McNary HS), Cedric Shaw (Fy., MID, Jamul, CA/Valhalla HS), and Catie Mohr (So., D/M, Portland, OR/Wilson HS) each scored once to increase the lead to 4-0 at the 6:38 mark. Richardson-Pepper scored her two goals at 6:02 and 3:50.

Kisielnicki tallied the seventh goal of the opening quarter with 3:10 to play. Bachiochi assisted on the goals by Mohr and Kisielnicki.

WU added seven goals in the second quarter. Kisielnicki achieved two goals during the quarter, while five other Bearcats registered one goal apiece. Kisienicki's goals started the quarter at 12:59 and ended the scoring in the first half with 37 seconds left. The Bearcats held a 14-0 lead at halftime.

Kisielnicki opened the second half with back-to-back goals at 13:31 and 10:33. Bachiochi, who recorded to assists in each of the first two quarters, supplied two more in the third quarter.

Jennings hit the net with a shot at the 6:47 mark of the third quarter, and then scored the first of WU's four goals in the fourth quarter on a shot with 10:14 remaining. Bachiochi set up one goal in the fourth quarter to reach her game total of seven assists.

Willamette outshot Eastern Oregon 37-1 during the game, including 21-1 in the first half. EOU goalkeeper Sydney Vopat was credited with six saves. The Mountaineers' one shot was not on goal, so Olivia Austin (Fy., GK, San Diego, CA/La Jolla HS) did not need to make a save while earning the shutout.

The Bearcats held a 19-6 edge in draw controls and claimed a 21-6 lead in ground balls. The Bearcats were 6 of 7 on clears, while Eastern Oregon finished 6 of 16 on clears. Pearl led all players with eight draw controls, while Bachiochi attained a game-high seven ground balls. The Mountaineers committed 20 turnovers, while the Bearcats accumulated 12 caused turnovers. Brielle Moore (Fy., D, San Diego, CA/Valhalla HS) of WU led the way by causing four turnovers.

Willamette will play at the University of Puget Sound on Saturday, March 9 in the first Northwest Conference game of the season for the Bearcats. The action is set to get underway at 1 p.m. PST.
