Bearcats Defeat George Fox, 3-0, Move to 4-1 in NWC with Fourth Straight Shutout

NEWBERG, Ore. -- Kelsey Walker (So., M/GK, Westerville, OH/Westerville North HS) of Willamette University scored two goals and Emily Sewall (Jr., GK, Petaluma, CA/Casa Grande HS) made five saves in goal, as the Bearcats recorded their fourth consecutive shutout with a 3-0 win at George Fox University.

Willamette improved to 4-4-1 on the season, 4-1 (12 points) in the Northwest Conference. The Bearcats lead the NWC by two points over Pacific Lutheran University (3-1-1, 10 points) and Linfield College (3-1-1, 10 points). George Fox fell to 3-5-2 overall, 1-4-1 in the NWC.

The Bearcats moved in front 1-0 at 28:39 on Walker's first goal of the game. She scored after receiving a pass from Kinsey Keene (Jr., F, Eagle, ID/Eagle HS).

Willamette maintained a one-goal cushion until Walker scored again at 54:41 in the second half. She scored the goal on a rebound shot. It was her third goal of the season.

Emmy Manset (So., F, Ventura, CA/Foothill Technology HS) recorded her first goal of the year at 65:53 to put Willamette up 3-0. She made a break-away run prior to shooting into the net.

The Bearcats outshot the Bruins 21-7 overall and 10-5 in shots on goal. WU earned a 10-3 advantage in shots during the first half and gained an 11-4 margin in the second half. GFU goalkeeper Morgan Bars achieved sevens saves.

Walker led the Bearcats with five shots and Manset added three, while Kacie Morgan topped George Fox with two shots. Willamette ended the game with a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

On Sunday (Oct. 4), the Bearcats will play at Lewis & Clark College in another NWC game. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. (PDT) in Portland, Oregon.
