Compton is Named NWC Women's Soccer Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University goalkeeper Rachel Compton (Sr., GK, Lake Stevens, WA/Lake Stevens HS/Skagit Valley College) has been chosen as the Northwest Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts against Lewis & Clark College on Wednesday, Oct. 26 and Pacific University on Saturday, Oct. 29. Compton did not allow a goal in 135 minutes played for a 0.00 goals against average.

The Bearcats went 1-0-1 during the week. Compton played 90 shutout minutes and registered four saves in a 0-0 tie at Lewis & Clark. Against Pacific, she held the Boxers scoreless in the first half and made one save, before leaving the game at halftime with a 2-0 lead in the 4-2 win.

"A huge congratulations to Rachel for her work in goal and keeping a clean sheet," Willamette Head Women's Soccer Coach Lisa Ljubicic said. "She had a really solid performance in our match against Lewis & Clark and followed that up with a good first half against Pacific. She did a great job in leading our defensive efforts in both matches. These games are not only a reflection of the work she has put in over the past few weeks, but also the past few years."

Compton has attained a 1.36 goals against average and a 4-4-1 record this season. She has earned four solo shutouts to go along with one shared shutout. She has contributed 37 saves.

Willamette will play the University of Puget Sound during Senior Day at Sparks Field on Saturday, Nov. 5, with kickoff set for 11 a.m. (PDT). The Bearcats will conclude the season at George Fox University on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 11 a.m. (PST).
