Smith Falls to Klages-Miller of Whitman in Round of 16 at Northwest Regional

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University's Mikaila Smith (So., Mill Valley, CA/Tamalpais HS), seeded #16 in singles, lost to #11-seeded Jana Klages-Miller of Whitman College in the Round of 16 at the 2015 USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Women's Tennis Championships on Saturday, Sept. 19 at the WU Tennis Courts. Klages-Miller defeated Smith, 6-1, 6-2, to reach the quarterfinals.

In the second round of the consolation singles bracket, Alexis Gjurasic (Fr., Olympia, WA/Capital HS) of Willamette moved past Kristi Floyd of Pacific Lutheran University in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. In the quarterfinals, Glenna Gee-Taylor of Lewis & Clark College downed Gjuraic, 6-0, 6-0.

Hannah Andres (Fr., Sammamish, WA/Skyline HS), who lost in the second round of the main draw in singles on Friday, played in the second round consolation singles bracket on Saturday. In the first round of that bracket, Lindsey Brodeck of Whitman defeated Andres, 8-1.

Semifinals and the championship match will be held in singles on Sunday, Sept. 20. The semifinals will feature Ella Riddle (#1 seed) of Linfield against Aurora Garrison (#3 seed) of Lewis & Clark in one match, with Jenna Dobrin (#4 seed) of Whitman taking on Summer Garrison (#2 seed) of L&C in the other match. Both semifinal matches will begin at 9 a.m.

In the championship double match -- set for Sunday following the completion of singles -- Garrison and Garrison of Lewis & Clark will battle Christine Eliazo and Claudia Lew, also from Lewis & Clark.

The singles and doubles champions will advance to the USTA/ITA National Women's Tennis Championships.
