Suzuki, Bearcats Battle Boxers in Northwest Conference Setback

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Willamette University women's tennis team fell to Pacific University in a Northwest Conference match on Sunday, April 7. The Bearcats claimed a point in the number two doubles flight, but suffered an 8-1 setback.

Alexa de Crinis (So., Makawoa, HI/Seabury Hall School) and Ruby Thompson (Gr., Bay City, OR/Tillamook HS) outlasted Morgan Wagoner and Mila Yamaguchi, 8-7 (7-5 tie-breaker), to earn the point. Thompson battled Wagoner in a three-set decision in the number six singles flight. Wagoner came out on top (7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 1-0 (10-5)).

Richelle Suzuki (Jr., Mililani, HI/Mililani HS) dropped a hard-fought match at number three singles. Suzuki took the opening set, 6-2, before Valentina Caleb-Keiscova rallied to win the match 6-3, 6-2.

Pacific improved to 4-1 in the Northwest Conference and 7-6 overall on the season. Willamette slips to 3-12 and 1-5 in the NWC. The Bearcats return home to host George Fox University on Sunday, April 14. The doubles matches are set to begin at 11 a.m. PDT.
