Thompson and de Crinis Battle at #2 Doubles against GFU on Senior Day

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University graduate student Ruby Thompson (Bay City, OR/Tillamook HS) and sophomore Alexa de Crinis (Makawao, HI/Seabury Hall School) played a strong match at #2 doubles against Kylie Hull and Cassey Hitch of George Fox University on Sunday, April 14 on Senior Day at the WU Tennis Courts. Seniors for the Bearcats this year are Thompson, Anika Groener (Sr., Bend, OR/Summit HS), and Ruby Blake (Sr., La Crosse, WI/Central HS)

Hull and Hitch outscored Thompson and de Crinis in Sunday's doubles match, 8-6. The win helped propel the Bruins to a 9-0 win in the overall match, as GFU improved to 13-6 on the season, 6-1 in the NWC. The Bruins placed second in the NWC behind Whitman College (7-0). Willamette ended its season with a 3-13 record, 1-6 in the NWC. The Bearcats placed seventh in the NWC standings.

At #1 doubles, GFU's team of Riley Bobkiewicz and Kalli Wiker downed Groener and Richelle Suzuki (Jr., Mililani, HI/Mililani HS), 8-2. In the #3 doubles match, Sophie Denham and Shanah Denham of the Bruins defeated Alicia Sola (Fy., Aumsville, OR/Cascade HS) and Marie Tarrab (So., Turner, OR/Tillamook HS) of Willamette, 8-2.

Wiker moved past de Crinis at #1 singles, 6-3, 6-1. At #2 singles, Bobkiewicz defeated Groener, 6-3, 6-2. Other winners for George Fox in singles were Kylie Hull at #3, Elizabeth Cook at #4, Arianna Rader at #5, and Abigail Bond at #6.
