Willamette Sweeps Linfield, 25-21, 25-22, 25-21

Hargrave and Leenstra Each Earn Nine Kills to Lead Bearcats

McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Willamette University hitters Carly Hargrave (So., MH, Happy Valley, OR/Clackamas HS) and Madisyn Leenstra (Jr., MH/OH, Bellingham, WA/Sehome HS) came out attacking and blocking against Linfield College on Wednesday, Oct. 12, as the duo led the Bearcats to a three-set sweep of the Wildcats in Northwest Conference volleyball action. Hargrave pounded out nine kills and had no attacking errors, while also providing four total blocks. Leenstra blasted nine kills and had three blocks.

The road win improved Willamette to 7-11 overall, 4-5 in the NWC. Linfield fell to 8-10 on the season, 3-6 in the NWC. The Bearcats won both matches with the Wildcats this season, including a 5-set decision at Cone Field House on Sept 14.

Hargrave, who hit .409 during the match, combined with Leenstra for 18 of Willamette's 30 kills. The Bearcats hit .113 as a team, with 15 attacking errors. Linfield achieved 31 kills, but had 30 attacking errors and finished the night with a .006 hitting percentage. The Wildcats accumulated double-digit hitting errors in each of the first to sets with 13 in set #1 and 10 in set #2.

Danica Reed (Jr., OH, Arvada, CO/Ralston Valley HS) contributed six kills and 19 digs for the Bearcats. Nicole Mertens (Jr., OH, Olympia, WA/Olympia HS) topped Willamette with 20 digs, while libero Kathy Lee Glenn (Jr., Murrieta, CA/Vista Murrieta HS) added 16 digs. Setter Emily Compton (so., Portola, CA/Portola HS/Boise State Univ.) supplied 24 assists and registered 10 digs.

Willamette had 6.0 team total blocks with two block solos -- one each by Hartgrave and Leenstra -- plus eight block assists. Linfield finished with 5.0 total blocks on two block solos and six block assists.

Kailana Ritte-Camara knocked down 11 kills for the Wildcats. Samantha Lau produced 26 digs for Linfield, while Courtney Wanamaker added 15 digs and Audrey Frazier earned 24 assists.

The Bearcats will return to action on Friday, Oct. 14 with a home match against Pacific Lutheran University. The start time is set for 7 p.m. (PDT) at Cone Field House.

NOTE: In the stats for the match, the play-by-play is not completely accurate. Due to a problem with Linfield's stats computer, most of the stats had to be manually recorded and then entered later.
