Willamette's Mattox Chosen as NWC Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University runner Kimber Mattox (So., Bend, OR/Bend HS/Cornell Univ.) has been named the Northwest Conference Women's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts at the Mike Hodges Invitational on Friday, Oct. 15.

Mattox finished second overall in the race, behind unattached runner Christine Babcock in the women's 5-kilometer race. She posted a time of 17:56.88 on her way to crossing the line as the top collegiate finisher.

The women's race at the Mike Hodges Invitational featured 120 athletes overall and a total of 14 teams participated.

Mattox's time moved her into seventh on Willamettes all-time Top 10 list. Her previous top time was 18:00.56.

Willamette's next competition is the Beaver Classic at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore. The first race will begin at 9:45 a.m. (PDT) in Avery Park.

Kimber Mattox is now seventh on Willamette's all-time Top 10 list for the women's 5-kilometer.
