Chew Finishes 28th out of 138 Runners in Men's 6K Race at Harrier Classic

SALEM, Ore. -- Jay Chew (So., Elk Grove, CA/Laguna Creek HS) of Willamette University earned 28th place out of 138 runners in the men's 6-kilometer race at the Linfield Harrier Classic on Friday, Sept. 1 at Joe Dancer Park. Chew placed 19th among scorers with a time of 19:17.0 and was the top NCAA Division III runner in the men's race.

Willamette placed seventh out of 14 teams in the men's standings with a score of 206. The University of Portland registered a score of 23 (2-3-5-6-7) to win the men's team title. The University of Oregon was second at 41 and Corban University placed third at 98.

The individual men's champion was Elliott Cook from Oregon, who concluded the race in 18:17.3. Eliason Kabasenche of Portland was second at 18:19.5 and Dalton Kaines from Portland took third place at 18:20.6. Oregon's Kutoven Stevens earned fourth place in 18:25.5 and Paul Law of Portland was fifth at 18:26.0

Helping Chew create Willamette's team score in the men's race were Gilbert Sanchez Torres (So., Citrus Heights, CA/Bella Vista HS), Adam Lewis (Fy., Glendale, CA/Eagle Rock HS), Julien Trobaugh (Fy., St. Louis, MO/University City HS), and Joshua Evans (Jr., Lafayette, CA/Acalanes HS). Sanchez Torres was 51st overall (35th among scorers) with a time of 20:01.1. Lewis placed 65th (46th among scorers) at 20:22.2, while Trobaugh was 66th (47th among scorers), also at 20:22.2. Evans completed the course in 20:43.4 to place 80th overall (59th among scorers).

Also for Willamette, William Hennum (Jr., Henderson, NV/Liberty HS/SW Oregon CC) was timed at 20:52.4. Liam Bergevin (Fy., Walla Walla, WA/Walla Walla HS) achieved a time of 21:34.8 and Sage Soto (Fy., Kapolei, HI/Kapolei HS) ended the race in 21:42.5.

Willamette will return to action on Sat., Sept. 16 when the Bearcats host the Oak Knoll Loop Run. Competition will begin at 9:30 a.m. PDT at Oak Knoll Golf Course in Salem, Oregon.
