    SALEM, ORE. -- Whitworth University ended the game with a 23-8 run, as the Pirates held off a comeback effort by Willamette University and defeated the Bearcats, 89-64, in a Northwest Conference Men's Basketball Tournament semifinal on Thursday, Feb. 26 at the Whitworth Fieldhouse. Willamette trailed by just 10 points with 7:45 remaining.

The Wildcats outscored the Bearcats 19-14 in overtime.

L&C owned a 37-15 lead at halftime. The Pioneers improved to 13-9 overall, including 8-5 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 8-14 overall, 6-7 in the NWC.

Puget Sound never caught the Bearcats, but had a chance to win the game on a last-second 3-point attempt.

Troplent was 7 of 15 from the field and hit three 3-pointers.

Whitworth, ranked #21 in the D3hoops.com Top 25, upped its record to 17-2 overall, 10-0 in the NWC.
