  • Bearcats Improve Significantly in Second Round of NWC Championship

    KENNEWICK, WASH. -- Willamette University improved its team score by 24 strokes on the second day of the Northwest Conference Championship Tournament in men's golf on Saturday, April 23 at the Canyon Lakes Golf Course. Willamette was led by Jacob Simonson (Fr., Fairview, OR/Reynolds HS), who lowered his individual score from an 84 in the first round to a 75 in the second round.

    SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University men's golf team will be competing at the Northwest Conference Championship Tournament this weekend in Kennewick, Wash., at the Canyon Lakes Golf Course. The first round will be held on Friday, April 22 with the second round set for Saturday, April 23. Par is 72 for the 6,935-yard course.

    NORTH PLAINS, ORE. -- Willamette University finished in sixth place in the final team standings of the Pacific Spring Invitational, which concluded on Sunday, April 17 with the second round of the 36-hole tournament. The University of Puget Sound won the team title with a score of 594 for a 13-stroke margin of victory.

    NEWBERG, ORE. -- George Fox University has canceled the GFU Invitational in men's golf scheduled for Friday, April 9 and Saturday, April 10 at Chehalem Glenn Golf Course. Willamette was one of several teams scheduled to compete in the tournament.

    LACEY, WASH. -- Willamette University finished the Northwest Conference Spring Classic in eighth place at the conclusion of the second round on Sunday, April 3. Linfield College won the tournament with a 36-hole team score of 625 after shooting 303 over the final 18 holes.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University golfer Kyle Derby (Fr., Oakdale, CA/Oakdale HS) has been selected as the Northwest Conference Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts in a dual meet against crosstown rival Corban University on March 11. Derby was Willamette's top finisher in the meet with the Warriors.

    REDMOND, ORE. -- Jacob Simonson (Fr., Fairview, OR/Reynolds HS) from Willamette University tied for 12th in the final individual standings at the Northwest Conference Men's Golf Fall Classic, which ended on Sunday, Oct. 24 with the second round of play at Juniper Golf Course. Simonson, who was one of four golfers to card a two-day total of 163, shot 78 in the first round and 85 in the second round.
