  • Symmonds Wins 800-Meter Run at USA Track and Field Championships

    EUGENE, ORE. -- Nick Symmonds ('06), who won seven NCAA championships as a runner at Willamette University, earned his fourth consecutive national title in the 800-meter run at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday, June 26 at Hayward Field. Symmonds, now a runner with Oregon Track Club Elite, took first place with a time of 1:44.17.

    DELAWARE, OHIO -- Evin Colignon (Sr., Poulsbo, WA/Charles Wright Academy) of Willamette University put together a strong second day to follow up on a solid first day of competition, as he finished in fifth place in the decathlon at the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, May 27. Colignon achieved a personal record score of 6,614 points on his way to earning All-America honors.

    DELAWARE, OHIO -- Willamette University runner Kimber Mattox (Jr., Bend, OR/Bend HS/Cornell Univ.) took second place in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:26.79 at the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, May 27. She earned All-America honors in the steeplechase for the second time in three years.

    DELAWARE, OHIO -- Willamette University athlete Evin Colignon (Sr., Poulsbo, WA/Charles Wright Academy) held seventh place in the decathlon with 3,368 points during the first day of the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday, May 26. Five decathlon events were held at Selby Field on the Ohio Wesleyan University campus on Thursday, with the final five events set for Friday, May 27.

    SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University women's track and field team is ranked #23 in the nation this week in the NCAA Division III Team Computer Rankings released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). In addition, the WU women's team is ranked #6 in the West Region and the Bearcat men's team is ranked #4 in the West Region.

Mattox broke the record of 4:30.58 established by Maddie Coffman '09 at the 2009 NCAA Championships.

Willamette placed second in the men's team standings and also took second in the women's team standings.

The Willamette men's team advanced one position to #21 this week, while the Bearcat women's team jumped six spots to #19.

    WALNUT, CALIF. -- Willamette University men's track and field runners Ben Donovan (Jr., Minneapolis, MN/South HS) and Stefan Redfield (Sr., Sisters, OR/Sisters HS) excelled on Thursday, April 14 and Friday, April 15 at the Mt.
