Sra Ties for 16th Place, Barnett Ties for 19th, at NWC Tournament

SUNRIVER, Ore. -- Taneesh Sra (Sr., Fremont, CA/Mission San Jose HS) tied for 16th place and Maddi Barnett (So., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) placed 19th, as the Willamette University Bearcats competed on the final day of the 2016 Northwest Conference Tournament on Sunday, April 24 at Crosswater Golf Course. Forty-two golfers competed in the 36-hole tournament.

Sra finished with an overall score of 163. She carded an 81 in the first round and an 82 on Sunday. Sra tied with Sofia Vigil of Lewis & Clark College. Vigil also shot 81-82.

Barnett shot 165 for the tournament. She recorded an 86 in the first round and improved by seven strokes to a 79 in the second round. Also competing for Willamette was Aubryn Walters (Fr., Lafayette, OR/McMinnville HS). Walters registered a score of 232 after carding 119 in the first round and 113 on Sunday.

The individual champion was Hailey Ostrom of George Fox University, who shot 1-over-par 145. She was one-over in the first round at 73, and shot an even-par 72 in the second round. Sydney Maluenda of George Fox placed second at 146 with two rounds of 73. Shiyang Fan of Whitman College took third place at 147 (73-74).

Iris Kawada from GFU placed fourth at 151 (74-77), while Annie McCutchan of L&C was fifth at 152 (77-75). A three-way tie for sixth place included Mady Rhodenbaugh from Lewis & Clark, Alyssa Maine of Whitman and Chelsea Bayley of Whitworth University. All three shot 153, with Rhodenbaugh carding 74-79, Maine earning 78-75, and Bayley recording 77-76.

First Team All-NWC honors, based on results from the NWC Fall Classic, NWC Spring Classic and NWC Tournament went to Maluenda and Ostrom of GFU, as well as Fan, Maine and Phoebe Nguyen from Whitman, and Bayley of Whitworth. Mauledna was named NWC Player of the Year.

George Fox won the team title at the NWC Tournament with a score of 600 (302-298). Whitman finished second at 609 (310-299), while Lewis & Clark was third at 623 (312-311).

Whitworth placed fourth with a score of 653 (322-331), Pacific Lutheran University was fifth at 659 (339-320), Linfield College was sixth at 715 (359-356), Pacific University was seventh at 780 (395-385), and University of Puget Sound was eighth at 799 (412-387). Willamette did not enter a complete team.

The overall NWC Championship was earned by George Fox, which received 31 points from the NWC Fall Classic, NWC Spring Classic and NWC Tournament. The Bruins received the NWC's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. Whitman finished second with 28 points and was followed by Lewis & Clark in third place with 23 points.

Whitworth took fourth place overall with 22 points, while Pacific Lutheran was fifth at 16, Linfield was sixth at 12, Pacific was seventh at 8, Puget Sound was eighth with 4 points, and Willamette was ninth with no points.
