Willamette Women's Golfers to Compete at Northwest Conference Tournament

SALEM, Ore. -- Athletes on the Willamette University women's golf team will be competing at the Northwest Conference Tournament on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24 in Sunriver, Oregon. The 36-hole event will be held at Crosswater Golf Course.

Competing for the Bearcats will be Taneesh Sra (Sr., Fremont, CA/Mission San Jose HS), Maddi Barnett (So., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) and Aubryn Walters (Fr., Lafayette, OR/McMinnville HS). Willamette is not entering a complete team and will not be eligible for the team title.

All women's golfers will start at the first hole on Saturday. Action will get underway with the first tee time at 10 a.m. Sra will be Willamette's first golfer on the course when she tees off at 11:30 a.m. Barnett is scheduled to start her round at 11:39 p.m., with Walters going to the first tee at 12:06 p.m.

Sra took seventh place at last year's NWC Tournament, which also was held at Crossover Golf Course. She shot 160 (78-82). In 2014, Sra tied for 11th place at 168 (82-86) during the NWC Tournament at the Oregon Golf Association Course. At the OGA Golf Course in 2013, Sra tied for fifth place during the NWC Tournament with a score of 162 (83-79). She was named Second Team All-NWC each season.

The top contenders for this year's team title are George Fox University with 15 points in the standings, Whitman College with 14 points and Whitworth University with 12 points.

The NWC uses three tournaments to determine the overall team champion: NWC Fall Classic, NWC Spring Classic and NWC Tournament. George Fox earned eight points for winning the Fall Classic, while Whitman received eight points for taking first place at the Spring Classic. The winning team at the NWC Tournament will receive 16 points, with the remaining teams earning points on a 14-12-10-8, etc. basis.
