Moore Leads Willamette with a 94 on First Day of Willamette Valley Cup

SALEM, Ore. -- Roberta Moore (So., Lakewood, WA/Lakes HS/Lewis & Clark College) shot a 94 in the first round of the Willamette Valley Cup to lead the Willamette University on Saturday, March 16 at Creekside Golf Club. The Bearcats ended the first round in eighth place in the team standings.

George Fox University led the tournament with an 18-hole team score of 296. Lewis-Clark State College (Idaho) was second at 322 and Whitman College held third place at 336. North Idaho College was fourth at 343, Pacific Lutheran University was fifth at 344, and Southern Oregon University was sixth at 346. Pacific University followed in seventh place at 348. Willamette was eighth at 388. Linfield University was ninth at 401.

Moore was joined on Willamette's team entry by Saida Seelig (So., Portland, OR/Wilson HS), Mallory Tolliver (So., Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington HS), and Anushka Srivastav (Sr., Pune, India/Mahindra International School). Seelig and Tolliver each carded a 97 in the first round. Srivastav completed the round with a score of 100.

GFU held the top three spots on the individual leaderboard at the end of Saturday's round. Liana Brown was first with a 2-under par 70. Alison Takamiya owned second place at even-par 72. Makensie Toole was third at 1-over par 73. Laila Jalil from North Idaho was fourth at 78. Four golfers were tied for fifth with scores of 79:  Beatrice Archur and Katya Kurkoski from Whitman, Keira Cheng from Southern Oregon, and Dallis Shockey of Lewis-Clark State. Tied for ninth place after carding rounds of 80 were Natalia Gomez from Lewis-Clark State and Abby Matelski of Pacific Lutheran.

Action at the Willamette Valley Cup will conclude on Sunday, March 17 with the second round of the tournament. Sunday's round will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. PDT. For Willamette, Moore will begin at Holle 3A, while Tolliver is set to get underway at Hole 4A. Seelig is scheduled to open at Hole 4B, and Srivastav is slated to start at Hole 5B.
