Chinn is Selected as NWC Baseball Hitter Student-Athlete of the Week

Bats .625 with a Grand Slam Homer and Six RBIs

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University first baseman Brandon Chinn (Jr., Salem, OR/Sprague HS) has been named Northwest Conference Baseball Hitter Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts when the Bearcats played Lewis & Clark College in a three-game series on Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24.

Chinn batted .625 during the week, with 5 hits in 8 at bats, including a grand slam homer on Sunday. In the series, he scored a total of three runs, recorded 6 RBIs, went 2 for 2 on stolen bases and contributed a sacrifice fly. He achieved at least one hit in all three games.

On defense, Chinn earned 29 putouts, including 16 in the first game of the series, to go along with one assist with no errors. He helped Willamette turn three double plays.

Chinn upped his batting average this season to .275, while keeping his fielding percentage at 1.000 with 115 putouts, six assists and no errors.

Willamette won two of three games against the Pioneers over the weekend. The Bearcats took the first game of the series, 7-0, before L&C won the second game, 15-8. WU achieved a 14-2 victory in the third game, which included Chinn's grand slam for an 11-2 lead in the seventh inning.

The Bearcats are playing a doubleheader against Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, Ore., today (March 26).

Willamette is scheduled to play three NWC games at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., this weekend, starting with a doubleheader on Friday, March 29 at 1 p.m. (PDT). The Bearcats and the Boxers will conclude the series with one game on Saturday, March 30.

Brandon Chinn hit .625 during the week, including a grand slam in Willamette's 14-2 win over Lewis & Clark on Sunday.
