SALEM, ORE. -- After a dominant pitching performance on Sunday, March 30 against Pacific University, Peter Hoffman (Jr., RHP, Hayden Idaho/Lake City HS) has been selected as the Northwest Conference Baseball Pitcher Student-Athlete of the Week.

For the Willamette University baseball team, Hoffman's victory solidified the Bearcats' third NWC series sweep in as many weekends.

Hoffman twirled a gem against the Boxers on Sunday, tossing a complete game in the team's 5-1 win.

After allowing an unearned run in the first inning, Hoffman stymied the Pacific offense with eight consecutive scoreless innings.

He allowed eight hits (seven singles) and struck out six batters while allowing just a single walk.

Hoffman's performance Sunday continued a trend of strong starts in recent outings. He surrendered just two earned runs in seven innings in a win against Lewis & Clark College on Sunday, March 23.

He also pitched eight innings of one-run ball and received a no-decision against nationally ranked George Fox University on Sunday, March 16, a game Willamette eventually won 3-2 in 11 innings.

This season, Hoffman has started eight games on the mound for the Bearcats. He currently owns a 3-2 record to go along with a 2.97 earned run average. In his 57 2/3 innings pitched, Hoffman has struck out 38 batters while surrendering just 10 walks.

After the series sweep over Pacific, Willamette is now 16-10 on the season, including 10-4 in the NWC.

WU will host Corban University on Wednesday, April 2 in a non-conference game. First pitch at John Lewis Field is set for 4 p.m. (PDT).

Owners of a nine-game conference win streak, the Bearcats will then head into their "bye" weekend with no games scheduled, before traveling to Walla Walla, Wash. to take on Whitman College on April 12-13.

Hoffman went the distance in WU's 5-1 win over Pacific, hurling nine innings for his third win of the season.
