SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University freshman designated hitter Ty Wyatt (Keizer, OR/McNary HS) has been named Second Team All-West Region for the 2014 season by D3baseball.com. Forty-two athletes were selected for All-West Region honors, split evenly between the First Team, Second Team and Third Team.

Wyatt was one of just three freshmen chosen for the All-West Region Team. Wyatt and University of Redlands second baseman Christopher Scalisi were the only freshmen on the Second Team. Freshman utility player Nishioka Tanner from Pomona-Pitzer was chosen for the Third Team. Nationwide, only nine freshmen were named First Team or Second Team All-Region.

"Ty had an outstanding season. He was a major part of our offense, hitting in the four hole for most of the year," Willamette Head Coach Aaron Swick said. "Being one of nine freshmen in the country to be selected First Team or Second Team All-Region is not only a testament to Ty's talent but also his incredible work ethic. I was really proud of Ty's season and look forward to seeing his game evolve in the future."

Pomona-Pitzer first baseman Simon Rosenbaum was named West Region Player of the year, while Chris Haddeland from Linfield College was chosen West Region Pitcher of the Year. Scalisi was named West Region Rookie of the Year and Linfield's Scott Brosius was selected West Region Coach of the Year.

Willamette finished the season with a 22-17 overall record and went 14-10 in the Northwest Conference to claim fourth place. The Bearcats achieved their highest winning percentage since going 21-13 in 2003.

Second Team All-West Region

Ty Wyatt (Fr., DH) was one of the top offensive players in the Northwest Conference. He led Willamette with a .359 batting average and also ranked first on the squad with a .531 slugging percentage, a .413 on-base percentage, 46 hits and 37 RBIs. He pounded out 10 doubles and four home runs to rank second on the team in both categories.

In conference games, Wyatt topped the NWC with a .398 batting average. He also led the NWC with 37 hits and 32 RBIs in conference play. He ranked second with a .581 slugging percentage and a .447 on-base percentage.

Wyatt closed the season strong, earning at least one hit in 20 of 24 games at the end of the year, including 14 multi-hit efforts. During those games, he hit .402, as his batting average soared from .226 up to .359. He earned at least one RBI in 17 of the final 24 games. He registered a career-high five RBIs in an 18-3 win over Lewis & Clark College on March 23.
