Paguio is Selected as NWC Baseball Position Player Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Kyle Paguio (So., 3B, Stevenson Ranch, CA/West Ranch HS) of Willamette University has been chosen as the NWC Baseball Position Player Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts during the first four games of the season this past weekend.

Paguio batted .429 overall (6 of 14), while earning at least one hit in all four games. He also provided the Bearcats with three sacrifice bunts, two runs scored, and two RBIs. For the week, he achieved a .571 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage.

In the season opener against Whittier College (Calif.) on Friday, Feb. 3, he went 2 for 2 with an RBI, a run scored and a sacrifice bunt, as Willamette defeated the Poets, 11-8. In the first game of a doubleheader against Whittier on Saturday, Feb. 4, Paguio was 2 for 5 with a triple, an RBI and run scored, helping the Bearcats win, 12-5.

During Saturday's second game, Paguio registered one hit and one sacrifice bunt in a loss to Whittier. He also earned one hit and a sacrifice bunt in a loss at Pomona-Pitzer (Calif.) on Sunday, Feb. 5. The Bearcats are 2-2 on the season.

Willamette will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 11 in a neutral-site game against University of Puget Sound at 2 p.m. The game will be played at Wilsonville High School in Wilsonville, Oregon. Also on Saturday in Wilsonville, Puget Sound will take on Whitworth University at 11 a.m., while Whitworth and Lewis & Clark College will play at 5 p.m. All of the games will be non-conference games.
