Each team scored one run in the second inning of the opener. For Willamette, Fischel was hit by a pitch to start the stanza. He stole second base with one out and then scored when Michael Nelsen (Sr., C, Folsom, CA/Vista Del Lago HS) sent a single into center field. Smith walked, but back-to-back outs on fielder's choices ended the inning. The game was tied at 2-2, but Linfield didn't score over the remainder of the game.
