Five Bearcat Football Players are Selected for NFF Hampshire Honor Society

SALEM, Ore. -- Five Willamette University football players have qualified for the Hampshire Honor Society Class of 2022. Willamette's selections were Max Andersen (Sr., WR, Chico, CA/Pleasant Valley HS/Butte College), Preston Doyle (Sr., LB, Sacramento, CA/Inderkum HS), Ryan Morgan (Jr., DB, Big Timber, MT/Sweet Grass County HS), Carson Pies (Jr., OL, Bend, OR/Bend HS), and Dylan Streett (Sr., S, Santa Barbara, CA/Bishop Diego HS).=

Sponsored by the National Football Foundation, the Hampshire Honor Society is in its 16th year. It recognizes college football players from all divisions who are seniors and have maintained at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average.

The class of 2022 features 1,574 players from 315 colleges and universities. The new members join previous players who have been named to the Hampshire Honor Society, which began in 2007. This year's athletes were nominated after completing the fall semester.

Fifty-five Bearcats have been chosen for the Hampshire Honor Society since it started. The Bearcats have had at least one selection in 14 of the 16 seasons. Willamette had no selections in 2009-10 and in 2020-21, when the Bearcats did not compete due to COVID-19.

Headshot of Max Andersen Max Andersen (Sr., WR) caught 40 passes for 386 yards and three touchdowns while playing in all 10 games in 2021. During his first year with the Bearcats in 2019, Andersen was named Honorable Mention All-NWC after hauling in 47 passes for 852 yards while scoring 10 touchdowns. he averaged 94.7 yards per game and 18.1 yards per reception. His 60 points led Willamette in scoring.

In two seasons at WU, Andersen grabbed 87 passes for 1,238 yards. He scored a total of 13 touchdowns, including a school-record 95-yard catch for a score against Pacific Lutheran University on Nov. 16, 2019. He also set school records with 16 pass receptions against the University of Puget Sound on Nov. 9, 2019 and 247 receiving yards against Lewis & Clark College on Oct. 26, 2019.

Andersen majored in Economics after transferring to Willamette from Butte College in California. He earned a 3.671 cumulative GPA through the 2021 fall semester. He graduated in January of 2022.

Headshot of Preston Doyle Preston Doyle (Sr., LB) played in eight games in 2021. He earned 18 total tackles, including 12 assists. He defended two passes. In 2018, he registered 36 total tackles with 26 unassisted stops and 10 assists while playing in all nine games. In 2019, he saw action in eight games.

Doyle's career statistics over 25 games include 40 unassisted tackles and 24 assisted stops for 64 total tackles. He achieved 3.5 tackles for loss and was credited with defending five passes. He also forced a fumble, recovered a fumble, and blocked one kick.

While majoring in Sociology, Doyle recorded a 3.236 cumulative GPA. He minored in Politics, Policy, Law and Ethics.

Headshot of Ryan Morgan Ryan Morgan (Jr., DB) competed in 21 games during his career at Willamette, including all nine games in 2019. His career totals included 62 tackles, as he registered 37 unassisted stops and 25 assists. He made 3.0 tackles for loss and defended two passes.

His top season was 2019, when he contributed 21 unassisted tackles and 14 assists for 35 total stops. He earned 2.0 tackles for loss in 2018. This past fall he played in five games for the Bearcats and provided nine total tackles, including six solo tackles.

Morgan graduated in January of 2022 with a major in Spanish and a minor in Global Cultural Studies.

Headshot of Carson Pies Carson Pies (Sr., OL) was an offensive lineman for the Willamette football team from the 2018 season through 2021. He saw action in one game as a first-year player in 2018, then competed in four games in 2019 and in three games in 2021.

He supplied quality play in the offensive line and provided significant depth for the Bearcats. The 2021 season was cut short for Pies due to an injury.

Pies majored in Civic Communication and Media at Willamette.

Headshot of Dylan Streett Dylan Streett (Sr., S) made a solid impact on the Bearcat football team in 2021 after playing for the Willamette men's basketball team earlier in his college career. In football, he played in all 10 games and was a key contributor in the defensive secondary. He earned 29 unassisted tackles and 20 assisted tackles.

His 49 total tackles ranked fourth on the team. He broke up six passes and was credited with one tackle for loss (9 yards). He provided a personal-best seven total tackles three times -- against Puget Sound on Sept. 4, versus Pacific University on Oct. 2, and against Puget Sound on Nov. 13. He recorded six tackles twice and made five tackles once.

Streett graduated with a major in Economics and a minor in Business.

Qualifications for the NFF Hampshire Honor Society

In order to qualify for the Hampshire Honor Society, a football player must be a starter or significant substitute completing their last year of eligibility at an accredited NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, or NAIA college or university. Each student-athlete must have earned at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout their undergraduate study, and must have met all NCAA progress-toward-degree requirements.
