SALEM, ORE. -- Cameron Mitchell (Jr., Post, Portland, OR/Grant HS/Univ. of Redlands) of Willamette University has been chosen Second Team All-West Region by D3Hoops.com. The All-West Region squad was determined in voting by Sports Information Director from throughout the Region.

Mitchell hit the boards better than anyone else in the Northwest Conference this season. He led the NWC with 11.8 rebounds per game -- an average of 3.8 more rebounds per game than any other player in the conference. Mitchell also ranked third in the NWC in scoring with 16.7 points per game. He was chosen First Team All-NWC.

During the season, Mitchell scored 385 points to go with 272 rebounds. He registered 14 double-doubles for the Bearcats. He also shot 55.0% from the field and led Willamette with 22 blocked shots.

Mitchell achieved more than 20 points and 20 rebound in the same game twice this year. He scored 25 points and hauled down 23 boards at Whitman College on Feb. 7. He scored 24 points and grabbed 21 rebounds against George Fox University on Feb. 20.

His 23 rebounds in the game versus Whitman were the third highest total in Willamette history and the most since the school record of 36 was set by Ken Ashley in 1962. Mitchell also hit 13 of 13 free throws against Whitman to set a school record for the most free throws made in a game while shooting 100%.

Mitchell's season high for scoring was 35 points against Pomona-Pitzer on Nov. 29. He finished the game just one point short of his career high of 36, set against the University of Puget Sound on Feb. 23, 2008.

In two years at Willamette, Mitchell has scored 672 points for 14.6 points per game. He has grabbed 479 rebounds, an average of 10.4 boards per game. His career shooting percentage for the Bearcats is 56.6% (258 of 456)..

Willamette finished the year with a 12-11 overall record, including 8-8 in the NWC (5th place). The Bearcats were in the running for one of the four NWC Tournament berths until the final day of the season.

A total of 15 players were selected for All-West Region honors by D3Hoops.com. Five players were named to the First Team, with five on the Second Team and five more on the Third Team.

Jeff Skemp (Sr., C) from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville was chosen West Region Player of the Year. Head Coach Steve Fritz from the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) was named Coach of the Year and Aaron Van Klaveren (Fr., F) from California Lutheran University was chosen Rookie of the Year.
