Lamothe Selected as NWC Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Chase Lamothe (Sr., Corvallis, OR/Corvallis HS) of Willamette University has been named the Northwest Conference Men's Golfer Student-Athlete of the Week after earning medalist honors at the Willamette Cup this past weekend. He also helped Willamette win the team title for the third consecutive season.

Lamothe shot a 2-under-par 70 on the first day of the tournament at Michelbook Country Club in McMinnville, Oregon. He added an even-par 72 on the second day at Chehalem Glenn Golf course. With a 36-hole total of 142, he won the individual championship by six strokes.

His efforts led the way as Willamette claimed the team title with a score of 601. The Bearcats shot 297 in the first round to build a 15-point lead. WU carded a score of 304 on the second day. Corban University (313-310) and Linfield College (312-311) tied for second place at 623.

Lamothe was one of four Bearcats who finished in the top 10 out of 45 golfers. Trent Jones (Fr., Kenmore, WA/Shorecrest HS) shot 72-77--149 to tie for fourth place. Collin Fuller (Jr./So., Grants Pass, OR/Grants Pass HS) and Clark Wilson (Jr., Ocean Park, WA/Ilwaco HS) tied for sixth place at 152. Fuller shot 75-77 and Wilson shot 78-74.

The Bearcats will compete at the UPS Invitational on Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6. The 36-hole tournament will be held at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Washington.
