Lamothe Named NWC Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week for Second Time

SALEM, Ore. -- For the second time during the 2016 spring season, Chase Lamothe (Sr., Corvallis, OR/Corvallis HS) of Willamette University has been selected as the Northwest Conference Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week. The current honor is for his efforts at the Lewis & Clark Invitational on Saturday, March 12.

At the L&C Invitational, Lamothe took first place with a score of 1-over-par 73 in rainy and windy conditions at Heron Lakes Golf Club in Portland, Oregon. He won by one stroke over Willamette teammate Trent Jones (Fr., Kenmore, WA/Shorecrest HS), who earned second place with a 74.

Lamothe and Jones helped the Bearcats win the team title with a score of 304. Willamette won by 12 strokes over Linfield at 316 and by 13 strokes over Lewis & Clark at 317. A total of 52 golfers from nine teams competed in the tournament.

Other top finishers for Willamette were Peter Mitzel (Jr., Red Bluff, CA/Red Bluff HS) and Steven Rodriguez (Sr., Red Bluff, CA/Mercy HS). Mitzel tied for eighth place at 77, and Rodriguez tied for 10th at 78.

Earlier this season, Lamothe was was chosen NWC Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week after winning the individual title and leading the Bearcats to the team championship at the Willamette Cup, co-hosted by Linfield College and George Fox University on Feb. 27-28.

The Bearcats will return to action on Monday, March 28 and Tuesday, March 29 at the West Cup, hosted by University of La Verne. The tournament will be played at Sierra La Verne Country Club in La Verne, Calif.
