SALEM, Ore. -- Austin Davis (Sr., Culver City, CA/Culver City HS) of Willamette University has been named Northwest Conference Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts in the West Region Showdown on March 23 and March 24 in Plano, Texas. Davis took first place in the individual standings with a score of 147 for 36 holes on the Traditions Course at The Course at Watters Creek. In addition, Davis helped Willamette win the team title with a score of 594 (295-300).

Davis shot a 73 in the first round and a 74 in the second round. His 73 tied for the second-lowest round of the tournament. He earned medalist honors by one stroke over WU teammate Andrew Kibbee (Sr., Kenmore, WA/Bothell HS), who claimed second place at 148. Davis led a 1-2-3-5-6 finish for the Bearcats.

"Austin played very steady over the previous weekend and that carried over to the middle of the week in our second event," Willamette Head Men's Golf Coach Patrick Daugherty said. "The wind was really tough, and he handled it great, but that's kinda what you expect from a senior and four-year starter. So it's no surprise that he played well, but considering the conditions, it was terrific."

It was Davis' third individual win of 2021-22. He also achieved first place at the Linfield Fall Invitational on Sept. 25-26 and at the NWC Fall Classic on Oct. 9-10. Willamette has won team championships at five of eight tournaments this season.

The Bearcats will be back in action on Saturday, April 2 when they host Spring Trilogy #3 at McNary Golf Club in Keizer, Oregon. The 18-hole tournament will include Willamette, Linfield University, and Lewis & Clark College.
