SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University golfer Alex Weirth (Sr., Port Orchard, WA/Crosspoint Academy) has been chosen First Team CoSIDA NCAA Division III Academic All-District VIII on the Men's At-Large Team for the second consecutive year, as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Weirth and other First Team Academic All-District selections are eligible to be chosen for the CoSIDA NCAA Division III Academic All-America Team, which will be announced on Tuesday, June 14.

A total of 14 student-athletes were named to the Academic All-District VIII Men's At-Large Team. Weirth was the only student-athlete chosen from the Northwest Conference.

CoSIDA District VIII includes colleges and universities in the western United States. Student-athletes nominated for the CoSIDA All-District At-Large Team were starters or key reserves with cumulative grade point averages of 3.3 or higher (4.0 scale). Each nominated player was at their current college or university for at least one academic year. The At-Large Team includes athletes in sports that don't have a separate Academic All-District team, so nominees were involved in a wide range of sports such as swimming, tennis, lacrosse, volleyball, and wresting, in addition to golf.

"Alex works extremely hard on his academics and is well-deserving of all of his academic accolades," Willamette Head Men's Golf Coach Patrick Daugherty said. "He by far has one of the top three highest GPAs for any of the players I've ever coached."

During the 2021-22 season, Willamette qualified for its third straight trip to the NCAA Division III Golf Championship where the Bearcats tied for 19th place at the Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Willamette tied for 11th place in 2021 and placed 13th in 2019. The NCAA did not hold a championship event in 2020.

The Bearcats also won their third consecutive Northwest Conference Championship in 2021-22 by taking first place at the NWC Fall Classic, second place at the NWC Spring Classic, and first place at the NWC Tournament. Willamette won the NWC Tournament by 32 strokes. The Bearcats took first place at seven tournaments during the season.
