SALEM, Ore. -- Jack McMullin (Jr., Seattle, WA/Roosevelt HS) from Willamette University has been selected as the Northwest Conference Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the Whitman Confluence Classic on Sunday, Oct. 23 and Monday, Oct. 24. McMullin won the individual championship with a 36-hole score of 5-under par 139 and led the Bearcats to the team title.

Willamette rallied for the team victory after trailing Pomona-Pitzer by eight strokes at the end of the first round. In the second round, the Bearcats surged past Pomona-Pitzer to win the tournament by 10 strokes. Willamette finished at 571 (283-288) and Pomona-Pitzer carded 580 (275-305) for second place.

"I'm just really proud of Jack's development, and I couldn't be more thrilled with his first college win this past week," Willamette Head Men's Golf Coach Patrick Daugherty said. "It was a really good field (of golfers), and Jack's just put in a lot of hard work to get to this spot. His teammates are incredibly excited for him as well."

McMullin earned rounds of 4-under par 68 and 1-under par 71 at Veterans Memorial Golf Course on Sunday and at Wine Valley Golf Club on Monday. He took first place by one-stroke over teammate Andrew Kibbee. McMullin had an eagle 2 on a par 4 to highlight his efforts, and also earned seven birdies with just four bogeys over the 36 holes.

The Bearcats were ranked #18 in the last NCAA Division III Men's Golf National Poll on Oct. 4 and were listed at #3 in Division III in the most recent Golfstat statistical rankings released on Oct. 19. Willamette has completed its fall season and will return to action during the 2023 spring semester.
