Bearcats are 17th, Kibbee is Tied for 41st, after Third Round of NCAA Golf

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. -- Willamette University ended the third round of the 2023 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship in 17th place on Thursday, May 18, while Andrew Kibbee (Grad., Kenmore, WA/Bothell HS) of the Bearcats was tied for 41st in the individual standings at the Keene Trace Golf Club. The third round was held on the par-72 Champion Trace Golf Course.

The Bearcats registered a team score of 316 in the third round as their overall score moved to 904 for 54 holes. Brock Olson (Fy., Kirkland, WA/Lake Washington HS) had Willamette's low round of the day at 5-over par 77. Olson was tied for 69th overall at 227.

Kibbee carded a 78 on Thursday and finished the third round at 222 overall. He is one of six golfers tied for 41st.

Riley Lankford (Grad., Pilot Rock, OR/Pilot Rock HS) of Willamette was tied for 82nd overall at 230. He shot an 84 on Thursday. Alex Weirth (Sr., Port Orchard, WA/Crosspoint Academy), who shot a 79 in the third round, ended the day at 233 for the tournament. Oliver Smith (Fy., San Jose, CA/Pioneer HS) shot an 82 on Thursday for an overall score of 241.

The NCAA Championship will conclude on Friday, May 19 with the fourth round. All of the final round action will be on the Champion Trace Golf Course.

After three rounds, Methodist University (N.C.) was at the top of the team standings at 864 (288-285-291). Piedmont University (Ga.) held second place at 868 (289-284-295) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (N.Y.) was third at 870 (290-288-292). St. John's University (Minn.) followed in fourth place with a score of 871 (284-293-294). Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) owned fifth place at 872 (292-285-295).

Christopher Newport University (Va.) was sixth with a score of 874 (286-291-297) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) was seventh at 875 (296-285-294). Guilford College (N.C.) was next in eighth place at 878 (297-283-298). Oglethorpe University (Ga.) held ninth place at 881 (289-293-299), while Illinois Wesleyan University was 10th at 885 (285-295-305).

Robb Kinder from Christopher Newport led the individual standings after 54 holes with a score of 5-under par 211 (69-72-70). He held a one stroke lead. Cameron Cappuzzo of Methodist and Bobby Beaubien of Illinois Wesleyan were tied for second place at 4-under par 212. Cappuzzo shot 71-71-70 in the first three rounds, while Beaubien carded 67-73-72.

Three golfers were tied for fourth at 2-under par 214. They were David Zhang (73-74-67) from Carnegie Mellon, Max Petterssson (74-71-69) from Averett University (Va.), and Sam Davidson (73-69-72) of Guilford. Josh Hebrink of Piedmont (69-74-72) and Alex Price from Christopher Newport (69-71-75) were tied for seventh place at 1-under par 215. Tied for ninth place at even-par 216 were Joshua Kwon of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (73-70-73) and Michael O'Sullivan of Oglethorpe (69-73-74).
