Smith Finishes Third and Helps Bearcats to Second Place Overall at Boxer Invite

North Plains, Ore. - Oliver Smith birdied four of his first seven holes in the second round of the Boxer Invitational on his way to a 3-under par 68 to finish third overall and help the Bearcats to a second-place team finish at the event hosted by Pacific University at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.  The team shot a two-day total of 595 to finish one stroke ahead of George Fox University, who had been tied with the Bearcats after round one.

Smith paired his 68 with an opening round 74 to finish the event with an even-par total of 242.  Smith was followed in the standings by teammate Brock Olson, who finished ninth with a 247 total, shooting a 3-over par 74 on Sunday after finishing with a 73 in Saturday's round.  Alexander Papajohn, who started the day in fourth place overall after carding a 71 on Saturday, shot a 77 on day two to finish 11th overall with a two-day total of 248.  

Paxton Jones was the final contributor to the team score on Sunday with an 82 (+11), while Connor Murphy finished with an 84.  Jones finished 35th overall at 158 (76-82) and Murphy finished in 40th after an event total of 161 (77-84).

Four Bearcats competed as individuals at the event and experienced some success.  Lucas Paul tied Olson for the second-best round on the team in the final round by shooting a 74, following an 84 on day one.  Kyler Phillips followed Paul with a 76, while Jack Carr and Benedikt Morsch each carded 80s in the final round.  Carr and Phillips tied for 30th place with Morsch just behind in 33rd.

The next event for Women's Golf is the Willamette Valley Cup on Saturday, March 15th and Sunday, March 16th.  The Bearcats are hosting this event at Creekside Golf Club in Salem, Oregon.
