
Victor, New York - Willamette Men's Golf shot a second-round 308 to finish in a tie for eleventh place after the second round of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship. The field of 43 was cut down to 18 after today's round and Willamette's two-day total of 606 put them five strokes above the cut line. The Bearcats now advance to rounds three and four of the championship that will be held at Midvale Country Club on Thursday and Friday.
Oliver Smith led Willamette on day two with a score of 75, which helped him move up fifty-six places in the individual standings. Starting on hole #12 in the shotgun start, Smith opened with a bogey, but was able to get back on track with consecutive birdies on holes 18 and 1. Brock Olson followed right behind Smith with a 76. The highlight of the round for Olson was an eagle two on the tenth hole when he buried a six-iron from just under 180 yards out from the hole.
Alexander Papajohn finished with a second-round score of 77 and sits in 24th place overall in the individual standings at the midway point of the event. Jack Carr and Lucas Paul each carded rounds of 80 on the day to provide the final piece of the team score for the Bearcats.
This is the fourth time in the past six years that Willamette has made the cut in this event. Their best overall finish in that time was a tie for eleventh in 2021.
Willamette will start the third round on hole 10 with tee times starting at 9:00 a.m. EDT/6:00 a.m. PDT.
