Willamette Edges Colorado College on Goal by Beasley with 1:22 Left in Second OT

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Freshman forward Greg Beasley (Camas, WA/Camas HS) scored with 1:22 left in the second overtime period to send Willamette University to a 3-2 victory over Colorado College, in a men's soccer game played on Saturday, Sept. 8 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Willamette improved to 2-1-1 on the season. Colorado College dropped to 1-2.

The Bearcats forced overtime when Luke Lagattuta scored at 82:14 to forge a 2-2 tie. The score remained tied until Beasley's goal in the second sudden-death extra period. Michael Rodrigues (Sr., MF, Beaverton, OR/Southridge HS) and Conor Costigan (Fr., MF, Hillsboro, OR/Glencoe HS) assisted on the winning goal. Rodrigues also scored at 23:45 to tied the game at 1-1 in the first half.

Colorado College took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Wes Rikkers at 20:06. The goal was scored on a corner kick, with Chris Quon receiving an assist. After Rodrigues equalized for Willamette, the score remained 1-1 through the end of the first half.

The Tigers moved in front 2-1 early in the second half. Matt Samson scored the goal on an assist from Logan Boccard. Colorado College maintained the lead until Lagattuta's tying goal with just 7:45 left in regulation.

Two of Willamette's three goals were scored on free kicks. Rodrigues scored on a free kick from just outside the Colorado College penalty area. Lagattuta also scored on a free kick.

WU goalie Scott Klein (Fr., Coeur D'alene, ID/Lake City HS) faced 34 shots (10 on goal) and recorded eight saves. He improved to 2-1-1 on the season.

The Bearcats took just 11 shots, but placed 10 on goal. Dave Kheun of Colorado College registered a total of seven saves for the Tigers.

Willamette plays at George Fox University on Wednesday, Sept. 12 to open Northwest Conference play. Game time in Newberg, Ore., is scheduled for 4 p.m. (PDT).
