SALEM, ORE. -- Tyler Yates (So., MF, Kailua-Kona, HI/Kealakehe HS) scored 9:58 into the game, and Austin Jacobson (So., MF, Salem, OR/South Salem HS) added a goal about 12 minutes later, helping Willamette University earn a 2-0 shutout win over Carthage College (Wis.) on Saturday, Sept. 7 at Sparks Field.

Willamette improved to 3-0 on the season, while recording its third consecutive shutout. Carthage fell to 2-2 overall.

Bearcat goalkeeper Braydon Calder (So., Philomath, OR/Philomath HS) accumulated seven saves on his way to achieving the shutout win. He has been the winning goalie in each of Willamette's games this season.

Each team managed five shots in the first half, including three shots on goal per team.

Yates scored on a 7-yard shot toward the left post, following a threough ball from the right side by Yazan Hishmeh (Fr., F, Ventura, CA/Saint Bonaventure HS). Jacobson's goal followed a free kick at the midfield stripe by Robin Hryciuk (Sr., MF, Snohomish, WA/Glacier Peak HS). Hishmeh flicked the ball down, providing the opportunity for Jacobson to shoot from 10 yards out.

While attempting to rally in the second half, Carthage outshot Willamette, 9-1. Calder registered four of his saves in the final 45 minutes. Carthage finished the game with a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Willamette plays again on Sunday, Sept. 8, when the Bearcats will travel to Portland to take on Concordia University (Ore.). Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. (PDT).
