Stanislaus State Downs Bearcats, 3-0, in Exhibition Match-up

TURLOCK, Calif. -- California State University-Stanislaus outscored Willamette University, 3-0, in a men's soccer exhibition game on Saturday night, Aug. 20. It was the second exhibition game of the day for the Bearcats.

Earlier on Saturday, Willamette lost at Menlo College, 3-0. Menlo competes in the NAIA. Stanislaus State is a member of NCAA Division II. Willamette competes in NCAA Division III. No stats were recorded during the night game.

Several Bearcats stood out against Stanislaus State. Royce Romero (Sr., M, Waipahu, HI/Punahou School) played well. Ethan Tait (Sr., M, Turlock, CA/Turlock HS) had a solid game while playing in his hometown. Newcomer Quinn Mello-Bastida (Jr., M, San Jose, CA/Valley Christian HS) also performed well for Willamette.

Head Coach Lloyd Fobi said that the two games were a very good early test for the Bearcats. He was pleased with the progress his players have made following just a few days of practice.

Willamette will play another exhibition game on Saturday, Aug. 27 against Concordia University (Ore.). Game time in Portland, Oregon, is set for 6 p.m. (PDT). One day later, the Bearcats will host the Willamette Alumni on Sunday, Aug. 28 at Sparks Field, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m.
