Fuentes is Chosen as NWC Men's Soccer Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University senior goalkeeper Josh Fuentes (Salem, OR/South Salem HS) has been selected as the Northwest Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for his effforts in games played during the week ending on Sept. 11.

Against University of California, Santa Cruz on Friday, Sept. 9, Fuentes made five saves in the first half, when USCC had most of its top chances. Fuentes played all 90 minutes in the game and finished with six saves, while earning a shutout as the Bearcats won 1-0.

On Saturday, Sept. 10, Fuentes played the first half against crosstown rival Corban University, ranked #20 in the NAIA Preseason Poll. He registered two saves and allowed one goal against the Warriors.

For the week, he achieved a 0.67 goals against average. He recorded a .889 save percentage.

Willamette is 2-1 on the season. Fuentes has received all three goalkeeper decisions and owns a 0.40 goals against average with two complete-game shutouts in 225 minutes played.

The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 17 with the opening of Northwest Conference action at defending champion Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. (PDT). Willamette will complete the road trip against Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 2:3 p.m.
