SALEM, Ore. -- Josh Schneider (So., F, Washoughal, WA/Camas HS) of Willamette University scored the game-winning goal against archrival Linfield College with 17 seconds left, leading to a 2-1 win for the Bearcats over the Wildcats on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Sparks Field. The winning goal also led to Schneider being selected as the Northwest Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week.

In Saturday's game, the teams were tied 1-1 entering the final minute of regulation. On the winning play, Yushiro Shiomi (So., D, Kyoto, Japan/TIUA) stole the ball about 15 yards onto Willamette's defensive side of midfield. He moved down the sideline and passed the ball from 25 yard out on the left side. The ball almost bounced for a second time when Schneider edged out Linfield goalie Cameron Perron near the penalty spot. Schneider shot with his right foot into the left part of the goal.

The winning goal was the third of the season for Schneider, who has scored five career goals. He ranks fourth on the team in scoring this year with his trio of goals, plus one assist, for seven total points.

Willamette is 7-2-3 on the season and 4-2-1 (3rd place tie) in the NWC. The Bearcats will host Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Sparks Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. PDT).
