Lindberg Wins 100-Yard Butterfly on Day One of Bruin Invitational

Newberg, Ore. - Men's Swimming put up some great times on the first day of the Bruin Invitational, led by Cole Lindberg's win in the 100-yard Butterfly and second place in the 200-yard Individual Medley.

The Bearcats opened the meet by taking third place in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay as the team of Lindberg, Paul Keith, Ka'olapa Masuko, and Kevin Olmedo finished with a time of 1:29.47.  Lindberg followed that up with his win in 100 Fly in a time of 52.06.

In the A-Final of the 200-yard Backstroke, Nicholas Moore took sixth place and Augie Meier swam to eighth.  Then, in the 100-yard Freestyle, Olmedo, Masuko, and Keith, swam to a 3-5-6 finish to score important points for the Bearcats.

Linberg, the only swimmer for Willamette in the 200-yard IM, swam a time of 2:01.83, good for second place in the event.  In the final individual race of the day, another three Bearcats swam well in the A-Final with Keith finishing second in a time of 5:07.41, followed closely by Ethan Davies in 5:08.03, and Lucas Cardenas taking sixth place in 5:16.22.

Willamette finished the day taking second place in the 400-yard Medley Relay when the team of Moore, Masuko, Lindberg, and Olmedo came in with a time of 3:41.23.

The Bearcats ended the day with 299 overall points, trailing Pacific Lutheran (348) and George Fox (494).  Pacific was in fourth place with 12 points.

The second day of the Bruin Invitational is Sunday, November 24th. Prelims are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., and finals will start at 4:00 p.m.
