Salem, Ore. - Willamette Men's Swimming registered some strong times in their meet versus Southwestern Oregon Community College with Cole Lindberg winning the 50-yard Butterfly and Kevin Olmedo and Nicholas Moore taking second place in multiplied freestyle events. The Bearcats lost the meet but the strong competition should help them as they look to finish the conference season and head to the NWC Championships in February.
Moore, Lindberg, and Olmedo teamed up with Ka'olapa Masuko in the 200-yard Medley Relay and finished third with a time of 1:42:55. Moore followed up that swim with his first second-place finish of the meet in the 1000-yard Freestyle in 11:04.10, followed closely by teammate Ethan Davies in third.
Olmedo swam to second-place finishes in consecutive events when he registered times of 22.43 in the 50-yard Free and 50.86 in the 100-yard Freestyle. In the 100-yard Free, he came in just ahead of fellow Bearcat Masuko who finished third. Masuko also finished third in the 100-yard Breastroke with a time of 1:01.83.
Moore took second again in the 500-yard Freestyle, followed one more time by Davies in third, and Paul Keith with a fourth-place time of 5:26.86. That set the stage for the next event when Linberg raced to victory in the 50-yard Butterfly with a time of 23.49.
The Bearcats return to the pool and Northwest Conference competition next weekend when they host Lewis & Clark College on Friday, January 24th, at 6:00 pm. The team will celebrate Senior Day before the meet against the University of Puget Sound on Saturday, January 25th, at 11:00 am.
