Baumgartner Defeats Allen, 6-1, 6-2
SALEM, ORE. -- Michael Baumgartner (So., Albany, OR/West Albany HS) of Willamette University defeated George Allen of Lewis & Clark, 6-1, 6-2, to lead the Bearcats to a 9-0 sweep of visiting Lewis & Clark College in Northwest Conference men's tennis action on Friday, Feb. 25. Baumgartner defeated Allen at #1 singles.
Willamette upped its record to 2-1 overall, including 2-1 in the NWC, by earning the victory at the Courthouse Tennis Club. Lewis & Clark fell to 0-4 on the season, 0-3 in the NWC.
The Bearcats grabbed control of the match in doubles. Joshua Wong (So., Hilo, HI/Hilo HS) and Garrett Vincent (Fr., Seattle, WA/Seattle Prep/Bellevue CC) prevailed at #1 doubles, 8-2, over Allen and Quinn Roth-Carter of L&C. Matthew Houser (Sr., Vancouver, WA/Evergreen HS) and Will Cooper (Fr., Gresham, OR/Centennial HS) also put together an 8-2 win at #2 doubles, as they defeated Cole Pfeiffer and Sam Franer.
At #3 doubles, Baumgartner teamed with Cameron Thompson (So., Torrance, CA/North Torrance HS) to defeat L&C's duo of Muneeb Khan and Gabriel Trepanieer, 8-3.
Houser won #2 singles over Roth-Carter, 6-2, 6-2. In addition to Baumgartner and Houser, other singles winners for Willamette were Vincent at #3, Cooper at #4, Zach Hutchinson (Sr., Casper, WY/Kelly Walsh HS) at #5 and Will Agnew-Svoboda (Fr., Corvallis, OR/Corvallis HS) at #6. All of the wins were in straight sets.
The Bearcats' next action is scheduled for Friday, March 4 at George Fox University. Match time is set for 2 p.m. (PST) in Newberg, Ore.
