Ferguson Wins First Round Singles Match at Ojai Valley Tournament

Defeats Inchalik of California Lutheran in Straight Sets

OJAI, CALIF. -- Willamette University tennis player Cody Ferguson (Jr., North Bend, OR/North Bend HS/Western Oregon Univ.) opened the Ojai Valley Tournament with a singles victory over Ben Inchalik of California Lutheran University on Friday, April 29. Ferguson won the match in straight sets, taking the first set in a tie-breaker 7-6 (7-3), before prevailing in the second set, 6-1.

Ferguson advanced in the NCAA Division III Singles Bracket to take on Parker Larsen from the University of California-Santa Cruz. Larson is one of several athletes seeded #9 in the singles bracket. Ferguson and Larsen were scheduled to take to the court at 11:30 a.m. (PDT).

With the win over Inchalik, Ferguson improved his overall singles record to 12-5 this spring.

Also competing for Willamette in singles today are Michael Baumgartner (So., Albany, OR/West Albany HS) and Joshua Wong (So., Hilo, HI/Hilo HS). Ferguson and Wong also will compete in doubles, while Baumgartner will combined with Matthew Houser (Sr., Vancouver, WA/Evergreen HS) in doubles action.

The Ojail Valley Tournament will continue through Sunday, May 1.
