Schreiber and Cooper Win Singles Matches for Willamette
SALEM, ORE. -- Jack Schreiber (Jr., Solana Beach, CA/The Grauer School) and Will Cooper(Sr., Gresham, OR/Centennial HS) earned wins at #2 and #3 singles, but Pacific Lutheran University's team depth propelled the Lutes past Willamette University, 7-2, in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match on Saturday, April 5.
Willamette fell to 1-10 overall, 1-6 in the NWC, while PLU improved to 3-10, 2-6 in conference play.
The Lutes started the day with a sweep of all three doubles matches. At the #2 position, Sam Wexman(So., Tiburon, CA/Tamiscal HS) and Blake Brash (So., Boise, ID/Boise HS) had the closest match, falling 8-4 to Neal Berg and Sam Angel.
Schreiber and Cooper were Willamette's bright spots in singles play. At #2, Schreiber improved his NWC singles record to 4-3 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Angel. At #3, Cooper survived a first set tie-breaker to earn a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 victory over Jake Yanello.
At the #1 position, Sam Wexman (So., Tiburon, CA/Tamiscal HS) took the first set before falling to Sam Stadter 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. Shrujan Kalidindi (So., Cupertino, CA/Monta Vista HS) also dropped a close decision at the #6 spot, as the Lutes' Jeremy Marsh earned a 6-3, 6-4 win.
Next up for the Bearcats is a match at archrival Linfield College on Sunday, April 6. The scheduled start time for the contest is 1 p.m. (PDT).
