FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- Pacific University defeated Willamette University 9-0 in Northwest Conference men's tennis action on Sunday, March 6 at the Holce Tennis Complex. The Boxers entered the day ranked #39 nationally and #10 in the West Region rankings. With the victory, Pacific improved to 8-1 on the season, 6-0 in the NWC. Willamette slipped to 1-4 overall, 1-3 in the NWC.
The Boxers hopped out to a 3-0 lead in doubles. The Boxers' team of Brennan Faith and Clark Wininger outscored Aaron Schecter (Fr., Seattle, WA/James A. Garfield HS) and Colin Yamaguchi (Sr./Jr., Clackamas, OR/Clackamas HS) at #1 doubles, 8-4.
Chris Dalton and Oscar Wight won for Pacific 8-3 over Samuel Wexman (Sr., Tiburon, CA/Tamiscal HS) and Blake Brash (Sr., Boise, ID/Boise HS) at #2 doubles. In the #3 doubles match-up, Wesley Upton and Sage Katayama defeated Derek Lund (So., Helena, MT/Capital HS) and Douglas Hochmuth (Jr./Fr., Oakland, CA, Bishop O'Dowd HS), 8-3.
Faith took the #1 singles match with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Schechter. In #2 singles, Wight took care of Brash 6-1 in the first set and won the second set in a tie-braker, 7-6 (7-5). Also winning for the Boxers were Dalton at #3 singles, Nyles Moisson at #4 singles, Katayama at #5 singles, and Upton at #6 singles.
Willamette will return to action on Saturday, March 12, in Walla Walla against Whitman College. Match time is set for 12 p.m. (PST) at the Missionary Tennis Courts.
