Nationally Ranked Lewis & Clark Defeats Willamette 9-0 in Men's Tennis

SALEM, Ore. -- Lewis & Clark College comfortably won all three doubles matches and was victorious in each of the six singles matches, as the Pioneers defeated Willamette University, 9-0, in Northwest Conference men's tennis action on Saturday, April 16.

L&C -- ranked 30th in the country and sixth in the region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association -- upped its record to 13-7 overall (10-2 in NWC), while the Bearcats fell to 3-9 overall (3-8 in NWC).

The Pioneers' duo of Brenden Barrows and Gordon Barrows defeated Aaron Schechter (Fr., Seattle, WA/James A. Garfield HS) and Colin Yamaguchi (Jr., Clackamas, OR/Clackamas HS) at #1 doubles, 8-2. Harrison Collins and Kevin Ross of the Pioneers downed WU's Blake Brash (Sr., Boise ID/Boise HS) and Sam Wexman (Sr., Tiburon, CA/Tamiscal HS) in #2 doubles, 8-1.

Daniel Hahm and Keane Hindle completed the Pioneers' sweep of doubles by defeating Derek Lund (So., Helena, MT/Capital HS) and Douglas Hochmuth (Fr., Oakland, CA/Bishop O'Dowd HS), 8-4 at #3 doubles. 

The #1 singles match between Raed Attia of L&C and Willamette's Brash was the tightest of the afternoon. Attia edged Brash 7-5 in both sets to escape victorious.

Schechter stayed close to Hahm in the #3 singles match, but lost each set by a 6-3 margin. Other Lewis & Clark singles winners were Collins in #2 singles, Barrows in #4 singles, Ben DeLuca in #5 singles and Kei Inoue in #6 singles.

The Bearcats will conclude their season on Sunday, April 17, when Willamette hosts Pacific University. Match-time is set for 12:00 p.m. (PDT) at the WU Tennis Courts.
